Sunday Sentiments

Thanksgiving Sunday at Harvest Christian Fellowship. That means lots of friends, family, and praise. Here are a few highlights of this morning service, for those of you who missed it.

  • Our drama ministry (yet to be named) debuted this morning with a skit showing ways that our faith can influence others during this time of economic crisis. Well done to the entire team, and our “actors”. We all look forward to seeing how God will use this ministry to spread the gospel.
  • I got to speak to at least one of our college freshman, home for break! Its always exciting to hear what is going on in the lives of these young adults as they study and live out the gospel on campuses across the nation. I pray that all of our college students press strong to the end of the semester, running all the way through the tape. We look forward to seeing you at Winter break.
  • Preparations are now in full swing for the church’s 2nd anniversary! The team met with Pastor Doris after service this morning, and the excitement is growing. Spread the word to all that you know, to come join us in January. More details to follow.
  • Bro. Duane Dillard was pumped this morning, as he led us in praise and worship. We got to see yet another glimpse into the future of our growing worship ministry. Can’t wait for what lies ahead.
  • The Men’s Fellowship leaders finalized plans to have the men of Harvest hit the neighborhoods in our area with invitations to our Sunday services. Don’t want to spoil it, but I believe the men should expect a call or correspondence this week. Take some time out, and support what the men are going to be doing.
  • Beginning this Wednesday, and every Wednesday in December, we will be having a prayer service in lieu of Bible Study. Come out with friends and family, as we spend time in prayer to our Lord for the balance of the year.

Sunday Sentiments

Praise the Lord for another Sunday at Harvest! It was a great blessing for everyone to see Sis. Lauren return to worship service this morning. She is truly a living miracle, after such a bad car accident. What a way to inspire worship and praise for “this” day that the Lord has made.

We continued our ‘Be Encouraged’ series with a message touting the attributes of ‘A Conqueror’s Attitude’. What a reponse! The sermon ended with many at the altar, and everyone in the sanctuary standing as practical illustrations of what our response should be to the negative whispers of accusation of condemnation that may come our way. Practice the way you intend to play the game!

Can’t wait until next week, to see what the Lord has in store for us in worship of Him. Stay tuned. Don’t forget to do the reading in Genesis for Bible Study on Wednesday. Thanks to Bro. Ibn for standing in this past week. The reports are that he did a great job. I had no doubt.

Sunday Sentiments

The Lord truly moved during our worship today. First, we broke through what had been an attendance threshhold for us. Praise the Lord! During prayer with the praise team prior to service, we asked the Lord to free them to worship Him without apprehension. Did the Lord ever answer that prayer! These dedicated men and women led us into worship in a way that we haven’t experienced for some time. Their freedom in worship, freed and led us all into the presence of the Lord. Glory!

We were again visited by men and women from a local retirement community. It was great to see these senior saints rise from their wheelchairs with one purpose in mind, to worship and praise the Lord. It was an inspiration to all of those who were younger and more able-bodied. What a testimony to the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living. At one point, I realized how blessed we were to have a church that saw every age group well represented, from newborns to seniors. We are truly a church alive.

The message today came from 2 Chronicles 20:1-23, and was titled “How to Handle Overwhelming Odds.” From the life of Jehoshaphat, the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem, we learned:

  1. Don’t let fear lead us in the wrong direction.
  2. Turn to seek the Lord.
  3. Rehearse the Lord’s deeds.
  4. Trust in the power of the Lord.
  5. Watch God work.

The Lord capped our time together by having another family join our fellowship today, and blessing our celebration of the Lord’s Supper. What a super day in Christ. Visitors, both first-time and returning are abundant week after week. All we, as a fellowship, care to do is continue to follow the call of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed. How was your worship experience today?

Sunday Sentiments

Wow! That is the appropriate exclamation to describe Sunday worship at Harvest. One of the greeters stopped me, in the narthex prior to service, and said that there was an electirc feeling in the air inside the church. Was she ever right! From the time of preparatory prayer, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be a typical worship service.

The Beyond the Veil dance ministry, and the worship team set the atmosphere of worship from the beginning. We noticed again, a good number of first-time and returning visitors.

The word preached by Pastor Doris was phenomenal. She told us that “The System Works”, using James 1:1-6 as her text. We learned how ridiculous it is to attempt to live this life with Christ according to our own wisdom and system, when God’s system is proven. His system calls us to have joy in the midst of trying times, know that trials work towards our maturity, and that our faith must be without doubt. We ended by “walking” in faith, and at the altar in a corporate prayer for increased faith. Wow! As one young woman came forward during the invitation extended, the praise to God was enormous.

If you haven’t joined us for a Sunday worship service at Harvest Christian Fellowship yet, and are in the area, I invite and encourage you to do so. You won’t be disappointed. How was worship in your house of worship Sunday morning?

Sunday Sentiments

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 21, 2008

We knew today was going to filled with excitement, but it was better than anticipated. Our new Director of Music began serving this morning, and praise and worship was anointed. It was clear to see how the members of the choir were be led by the Spirit of the Lord, as they led us in worship and singing. Bro. Duane Dillard and his wife are a great couple, committed to the work of the Lord, and we are blessed to have them serving alongside us at Harvest. We can only see greater things coming from this point.

I was able to share with the congregation and visitors a bit of information that I have be excitedly holding since Tuesday of this past week; Harvest Christian Fellowship is now an official member of the Chesapeake District of The Wesleyan Church, and the ministries of Harvest Christian Fellowship and New Hope Wesleyan Church have been merged. We are now officially one church, named Harvest Christian Fellowship. Now we press forward in fulfilling the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment. We believe that we are truly agents of the Lord, transforming the world one relationship at a time.

We have been asked by many what this relationship with The Wesleyan Church means for Harvest Christian Fellowship. It means that we are an integral part of a team that is committed to glorifying God, and winning the lost for Jesus Christ. It means that we no longer stand alone in the fulfillment of our mission, but are immediately connected to resources that will aid in our doing what we have been called to do. As it pertains to worship, fellowship, outreach, and our other core values, we will still be distinctly Harvest.

The members of Harvest Christian Fellowship are still excitedly responding to our recent sermon series and inviting those persons in their circles of influence to come and worship with us on Sunday. This morning’s service was again attended by a number of first-time visitors, all relatives of current members of Harvest. Keep doing what we have been called to do!

Just What the Spirit Ordered

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 7, 2008

What a day today! This ministry has been through some trying times lately, and today was a much needed time of refreshing. Everyone seemed energized for our first official combined service, both Harvest Christian Fellowship and New Hope Wesleyan.

Many ministry members and workers were full of energy and excitement as we prepared for our inaugural 10 a.m. worship service. Let me say that God didn’t disappoint! Praise and worship was extremely effective at ushering in the presence of the Lord. The music was great. Just one more Sunday before our new director of worship begins.

We completed our six week sermon series on The Essentials for Maximum Impact, a series gleaned from the Hybels/Mittleburg book, Becoming A Contagious Christian. True to form, several members were already putting the teaching into action, inviting neighbors and co-workers to service. We ended our fellowship together celebrating the Lord’s Supper. The Spirit of the Lord was with us today.

It never ceases to amaze me how on time God is. Just when you are called by Him to make a series of ministry and life-altering decisions, He confirms that you are in His will with days like today. The Lord never promised that the narrow way was the easy way, but He did promise that we need not walk it alone. To God be the glory!
