A Clergy Appreciation Thank You

Posted by Meredith Griffin on October 27, 2008

I was surprised, humbled, and blessed yesterday afternoon, following the morning worship service at Harvest. Weekly, all who attend a Sunday morning worship service are invited to fellowship over light refreshments in our fellowship hall, and many accept the invitation weekly. For us, it is another way to live out our core value of being a biblical community (fellowship).

Yesterday, however, when I got downstairs I noticed that no one was eating and the room was crowded. Not only this, but everyone was staring directly at me. After asking and receiving cryptic answers regarding the delay, I was surprised to find that this was in fact a planned clergy appreciation celebration for me. I was humbled and surprised. Truly! As I alternated between standing and sitting, families and individuals stood to express how they have been impacted by our relationship over time. I was brought to tears by much of what was said. I was also again reminded of the awesome responsibility entrusted to me as a pastoral leader.

I am writing to thank all of the members of Harvest Christian Fellowship for allowing me to serve alongside you as your senior pastor. As I tearfully expressed yesterday, I am honored to know you all. I see your hard work and recognize that it is on our collective efforts that the fulfillment of our corporate mission depends. I thank those of you who serve as greeters, parking lot attendants, ushers, stewards, adjutants, and aspirants. I thank those of you who serve in the Youth Church Ministry, Beyond the Veil Dance Ministry, Music Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, Audio Reproduction Ministry. I thank those who set-up and work the sound on Sunday mornings, open and close the church during the week, and clean the church weekly. I thank those of you who attend Bible Study on Wednesdays, participate in Men’s Fellowship or Women’s Ministry. I thank those of you who hear God’s word and obey his voice, tithing, faithfully serving, living holy lives, inviting friends, neighbors, family, coworkers, and acquaintances to worship with you at Harvest.

I pastor because it is what God called me to do. In obedience, I would pastor wherever God sent me and faithfully whatever people were there. But I am blessed to serve among, what I believe to be, the most outstanding and committed group of men, women, young men, young women, boys, and girls in the kingdom of God. Imagine that this is less than two years in, and see what God has done. The best is yet to come.

Sunday Sentiments

Posted by Meredith Griffin on October 27, 2008

Wow! That is the appropriate exclamation to describe Sunday worship at Harvest. One of the greeters stopped me, in the narthex prior to service, and said that there was an electirc feeling in the air inside the church. Was she ever right! From the time of preparatory prayer, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be a typical worship service.

The Beyond the Veil dance ministry, and the worship team set the atmosphere of worship from the beginning. We noticed again, a good number of first-time and returning visitors.

The word preached by Pastor Doris was phenomenal. She told us that “The System Works”, using James 1:1-6 as her text. We learned how ridiculous it is to attempt to live this life with Christ according to our own wisdom and system, when God’s system is proven. His system calls us to have joy in the midst of trying times, know that trials work towards our maturity, and that our faith must be without doubt. We ended by “walking” in faith, and at the altar in a corporate prayer for increased faith. Wow! As one young woman came forward during the invitation extended, the praise to God was enormous.

If you haven’t joined us for a Sunday worship service at Harvest Christian Fellowship yet, and are in the area, I invite and encourage you to do so. You won’t be disappointed. How was worship in your house of worship Sunday morning?

Sunday Sentiments

Posted by Meredith Griffin on October 20, 2008

Great Sunday! We had a good number of seniors bussed in from a local assisted living facility join us in worship. The message was “A Cure for Anxiety”. Given the current state of the country’s economy there are many people, including bleievers, who are anxious about their financial future. We are called to trust that our Father in heaven knows what we have need of.

We had our first evening worship service; a celebration as we witnessed the initial sermon of Sister Michelle Coleman. We at Harvest are proud of Michelle, and look forward to supporting her in her education and development in vocational ministry.

As has been the usual situation lately, Brother Duane Dillard had the praise team doing it right! It is exciting to see the development of the voices and confidence among our committed praise team members. Keep up the good work.

We really have a dedicated group of men and women who make up the membership of Harvest Christian Fellowship. It is a privilege to serve as their senior pastor.
