Congratulations to the Young Family!

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 22, 2008

The Harvest Christian Fellowship family is celebrating with Leonard and Amber Young on the birth of their first child, Amaya Dove Young. Amaya was welcomed into the world at 10:59pm on Friday, September 19th. Amaya weighed in at 8lbs 13oz, and was 20 inches long. Leonard says that mother, child, and father are all doing fine. More pictures of baby Amaya can be seen here. Harvest, let’s make sure we surround the Young family with our prayers, encouragement, and any assistance they may need. God’s kingdom is growing!

Sunday Sentiments

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 21, 2008

We knew today was going to filled with excitement, but it was better than anticipated. Our new Director of Music began serving this morning, and praise and worship was anointed. It was clear to see how the members of the choir were be led by the Spirit of the Lord, as they led us in worship and singing. Bro. Duane Dillard and his wife are a great couple, committed to the work of the Lord, and we are blessed to have them serving alongside us at Harvest. We can only see greater things coming from this point.

I was able to share with the congregation and visitors a bit of information that I have be excitedly holding since Tuesday of this past week; Harvest Christian Fellowship is now an official member of the Chesapeake District of The Wesleyan Church, and the ministries of Harvest Christian Fellowship and New Hope Wesleyan Church have been merged. We are now officially one church, named Harvest Christian Fellowship. Now we press forward in fulfilling the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment. We believe that we are truly agents of the Lord, transforming the world one relationship at a time.

We have been asked by many what this relationship with The Wesleyan Church means for Harvest Christian Fellowship. It means that we are an integral part of a team that is committed to glorifying God, and winning the lost for Jesus Christ. It means that we no longer stand alone in the fulfillment of our mission, but are immediately connected to resources that will aid in our doing what we have been called to do. As it pertains to worship, fellowship, outreach, and our other core values, we will still be distinctly Harvest.

The members of Harvest Christian Fellowship are still excitedly responding to our recent sermon series and inviting those persons in their circles of influence to come and worship with us on Sunday. This morning’s service was again attended by a number of first-time visitors, all relatives of current members of Harvest. Keep doing what we have been called to do!

Sunday Sentiments

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 14, 2008

Another blessed day in the Lord! Again we were blessed with a healthy proportion of visitors, with about 25% of those being first-time. Great! To all of the members of Harvest who are spreading the word, keep it up.

We had a reunion of sorts today, with all of the current and former choir members coming together to sing a Harvest Christian Fellowship staple. The Spirit of God moved mightily during and after their singing. Our new Director of Music starts next Sunday. We wait with excited anticipation to see what God is about to do in the Music ministry at Harvest.

This was a transition week between sermon series. We fellowshipped around the theme No Guts, No Glory. We as Christians need to ensure that we are standing firm on sound doctrine, not easily yielding to the plethora of teachers who desire to tickle our ears.

We really feel like the Lord is on the verge of a major breakthrough at Harvest Christian Fellowship. We continue to pray that we remain faithful to our call to be a bridge-building, harvest-focused, Christ-centered ministry. Stay blessed.

Harvest Night at the Movies

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 8, 2008

The Married Couples ministry is inviting everyone to join them at the movies on Friday, September 26, 2008. We will be viewing the movie Fireproof, a film by the creators of Facing the Giants (Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia). Come out and join us for a night of fun at the movies.

The following Friday evening, the married couples will get together to discuss the movie. As a certain football player would say, “get your popcorn ready.”

Just What the Spirit Ordered

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 7, 2008

What a day today! This ministry has been through some trying times lately, and today was a much needed time of refreshing. Everyone seemed energized for our first official combined service, both Harvest Christian Fellowship and New Hope Wesleyan.

Many ministry members and workers were full of energy and excitement as we prepared for our inaugural 10 a.m. worship service. Let me say that God didn’t disappoint! Praise and worship was extremely effective at ushering in the presence of the Lord. The music was great. Just one more Sunday before our new director of worship begins.

We completed our six week sermon series on The Essentials for Maximum Impact, a series gleaned from the Hybels/Mittleburg book, Becoming A Contagious Christian. True to form, several members were already putting the teaching into action, inviting neighbors and co-workers to service. We ended our fellowship together celebrating the Lord’s Supper. The Spirit of the Lord was with us today.

It never ceases to amaze me how on time God is. Just when you are called by Him to make a series of ministry and life-altering decisions, He confirms that you are in His will with days like today. The Lord never promised that the narrow way was the easy way, but He did promise that we need not walk it alone. To God be the glory!

An Exciting Sunday Ahead

Posted by Meredith Griffin on September 3, 2008

This Sunday will be an exciting one in the life of Harvest Christian Fellowship and New Hope Wesleyan Church, as we combine our worship services together at 10a.m. There is no doubt that God has moved upon the hearts of the members of these two churches from different Christian traditions to join together in an effort to fulfill the great commission and commandment. What a time it will be!

Harvest Christian Fellowship is a twenty month old independent church plant, spawned from the Baptist and neo-pentecostal traditions. New Hope Wesleyan is an established church in the evangelical holiness tradition of John Wesley. What began as an arrangement to share a building, has become a covenant to fulfill Christ’s mission together.

Our first official service as one (we actually began worshipping together in August) will be shared around the Lord’s Supper. How great is that! We will begin our journey together around the table that unites us as believers; the table that exemplifies for us all the grace imparted to us through the sacrificial death of our Lord. I can’t wait to preach on Sunday! More details to follow.
